Description

The "jewel" in the picture is Iota Orionis, the brightest star in Orion's Sword at the outer edge of the Great Orion Nebula. It’s a triple star system, which is why the star looks a bit wonky.Tri-color nebulosity is courtesy of The Great Orion Nebula seen here in the Hubble palette with nearly equal intensity in hydrogen, oxygen and sulfur - a rarity as hydrogen generally dominates these objects.
